Today was an opportunity to put in my hardest run course against what I'd normally think to be the second most permissive conditions I've run since I've gotten here.

The weather worked great, as did my brief taper. This is a PR for this course and I didn't particularly try to kill myself. On an even more positive note, this was a straight run - no walking involved, even on the one hill in this course that normally wipes me out.

My homework from last night involved reading Norman Maclean's Young Men and Fire, and as I was running uphill, I was thinking of what kind of shape the men had to be in when they were trying to outrun a fire and they had to sustain an over 9-minute mile going up an over-60 degree slope. I guess I added Mann Gulch, near Helena MT, to the list of places I eventually want to see.
