I was going to save this for tonight, but I'm glad I did it when I did. The weather was good, and there were enough people out there where I could pull along mentally as I tried to pass them.

I ran into one of the soldiers who had once been in our staff directorate, who was in a recent engagement where he ended up laying down some suppressive fire with a .50 caliber machine gun after getting shot at with a rocket propelled grenade from 35 meters. He was okay, although they lost an Afghan National Army soldier in the engagement.

This combat tour, like other things in my life, is grinding inexorably towards the end.
