Something other than running. As an experiment, I decided to crank the resistance all the way up on the Concept2 this morning just to see how things might be different.

Interestingly, there was little discernible difference in pace and I think I worked my upper body a little more, which was the goal. I was holding mostly 2:12/500m in the first 1000m, then shifted to 2:06/500m for another 1000m and settled around 2:08-2:10 for the remainder. My finish was pretty strong, finishing closer to about 2:00/500m.

The significant difference here was one of tempo. I was spinning closer to about 27-28 spm rather than the usual 30-32 spm I normally clock at lower drag factors (for example, 34 spm when I rowed earlier this week with a drag factor around 100-105.)

I need to do a little more examination to see where I really get the best results; whether it's sustained speed and high spm versus a slower, more deliberate pace. I think I'll experiment with higher drag factors to see where else I get improvement.
