This morning’s wind readings were deceptive. Before the run the winds were going 18 gusting to 31 knots, after the end of the run, the reading was 17 gusting 27. Welcome to the dust storm season.

I was not looking to run particularly hard this morning – I had almost no energy and was completely reliant on a high intensity caffeine drip to keep my ass going. The meter hit zero about 2200 last night. I knew I was tired this morning when I woke up, drank water, and immediately went back to sleep at 0530. My alarm went off a half hour later and I promptly went back to sleep. I woke up 12 minutes later to the thought of “FUCK!” as I was about to stand up my running partner, who honestly would have stayed in had we not agreed to meet.

Looking at training, one of the most valuable tools is a training partner. If you have someone to meet you in the mornings, the likelihood of actually going out and training increases dramatically. It’s a classic example of how the hardest step is the first one getting out the door.
