Z4 run in, Z3 initial row to Z5 finish, Z4 run back. Average/max heart rate = 151/179 overall.

I ran much faster than I expected to today going in, although I was trying to run down someone who, as it turns out was going the same speed I was moving.

I hoped for a more controlled erg, and did so for about the first 4000m, holding the heart rate around 145-150. Then I was thinking about two things I'd seen recently:





Then I was reminded of the troops I had sent to their death four years ago and decided that sometimes it's good to erg the Concept2 at full bore because the alternatives are unacceptable. The last 1000m was one of those days where I took the entire last 1000m at Z5 intensity, which I could tell when my working heart rate, rarely much over 171, was holding steady at 177-179. It is the first zone 5 workout I've done in years.

I ran back to the house faster than I intended, but I had a fucking white-hot case of the ass. Three years after coming back from a combat zone, I am still angry.
