This was my participation in the Army Birthday Run at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. Being a somewhat jaded basic branch combat arms officer, I wasn't sure what to expect in a formation run of over 2,500 Soldiers and Civilians at Headquarters, Department of the Army. I was pleasantly surprised.

The run went extraordinarily well for one of that size, and while we all need some practice singing the new parts of the Army Song, I particularly liked the Army Band playing Mark Isham's "Army Strong" as the group marched out. I can think of no better background music to play on a day of celebration than that one, honestly.

I decided to run in from the Pentagon because it'd be easier than trying to ride the bus full of sweaty runners on the way back. I also wanted to turn it into a long run and the ingress and egress to JBMHH was sufficiently hard to warrant it being a solid run.

It's a great day to be an American Soldier.
