First day running on a real Army installation, surrounded by troops, in about five years. Last time I did any of that was when I was at Fort Bragg, still in the 82d Imperial. Today was steamy. And hot. And when it's hot and humid, the sweat begins. There were no dry parts of my shirt by the end of the run. That's about the norm, but it's almost July, so it's really to be expected.
I knew I was going a bit faster than usual, but I didn't realize I had been holding an average 8:26 pace for the run. I was starting to hurt near the end as there was a very noticeable difference in relative heat from being in the shade (next to trees) and being out in the open with the sun beating down on me.
Now that I'm back in an infantry division again, I got a clean set of whitewalls yesterday (had the sides and back of my head shaved). That's one of the few ways I can really deal with the heat when it's summertime.
